Hirudin is a naturally occurring peptide in the salivary glands of medicinal leeches (such as Hirudo medicinalis) that has a blood anticoagulant property. This is fundamental for the leeches’ alimentary habit of hematophagy, since it keeps the blood flowing after the initial phlebotomy performed by the worm on the host’s skin.
We are producing crude and pure Hirudin from Hirudo Medicinalis.
We are using sterile Hirudo Medicinalis Leeches that we breed in large scale sterile aquariums and feed non-blood synthetic proteins. And also, we are not producing Hirudin by extraction/killing the leeches. We use a non-mortal technique for extraction the leech salvia. This technique prevents extinction of Hirudo Medicinalis.
